What’s your definition of romantic?
Romance can be so many things that it is hard to nail down just one definition in my mind.
In my heart, I know the feeling of romance involves a kind of good-natured and thoughtful manipulation. Unexpected gifts, little encouragements, warm touches, notes that sneak into briefcases or pockets of a favorite jacket.
Romance is definitely a part of fresh and new love. Over time, as love tests us, romance becomes less easy and natural. It can stale and even become repetitive or de regur.
I do believe it is important to keep the romance in a relationship alive. It is like watering the plant of love and connection. It goes hand in hand with communication and trust.
Romantic acts are usually a result of couples actively listening to one another. A partner once got me a box of Beeman’s gum because I mentioned liking “clove gum” and not being able to find it anywhere.
Sharing book recommendations, oddly, tends to be romantic to me. If I like a person, I like to k ow what they’re reading so that I can talk with them about the books. Whether we both enjoy a particular book or not, the discussion about (or argument over) can be very romantic.
