Making the Leap: From Unknown to Unstoppable

Most authors giving advice on how to become successful as writers will touch upon the basics of getting on as many social media platforms as you can find and constantly networking.

Myself, I admit that I feel ridiculous getting on Twitter or Instagram at least three times a day to beg people to like and follow me. Most don’t follow links to my books. Those who do read or download don’t seem to finish the books.

People have busy lives. And finding spare time to read in this stressful world of mass electronic distraction is difficult. It’s almost like asking people to exercise instead of eat fast food and drink adult beverages while streaming their favorite episodes of Friends or Fraser.

My only advice is to be prolific and publish as often as you can across as many platforms as you can. Use Kindle Vella to publish your Works In Progress and get feedback from readers who pay for the privilege to read your early chapters. Go to ACX and look at hiring audiobook producers and narrators who will help you promote for a share of the royalties.

And blog if you can. Be honest about your struggles to find readers. You marketing short-comings, your desires.

I, for one, would love a literary agent who would help me make the leap into mainstream publishing. It took me 9 ulyeara of writing before I finally stumbled across an editorial agency I absolutely adore.

I guess, the best advice is never lose your spark. Keep writing even when you think nobody is reading. There are high and low tides in every life, so keep your boat afloat.

Keep writing,

J.W.A.
