Other people’s expectations…

·

What could you let go of, for the sake of harmony?

Living up to the expectations of others will be the death of me. What it takes to be a good worker, a good parent, a successful member of society…

Go where the work takes you. Do the jobs you can do well. And the moment you feel the whip crack or the noose tighten, remind yourself that you are the engine in the machine. You have the potential to run at 440 HP if you are well treated and maintained.

And some days, you need to sit in the garage under a tarp. Some days you need to be driven through the hills and given a full detail.

You’re not a tow-truck. You are a muscle car.

Other people’s expectations will either limit you, or over-extend you and burn you out. Harmony comes from communicating. That means popping off at your boss when the temperature is too hot and the deadlines are too grueling.

You should work for quality in what you do. And skimping and rubber-stamping stuff to meet expectations of those over you only hurts you.

So, don’t hurt yourself. And always remember, you can walk away from any situation.
